SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0742 PM CDT Mon Oct 12 2020 Valid 130100Z - 131200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... Organized severe thunderstorms are not expected through tonight. ...Synopsis... Early evening water-vapor imagery shows a couple of mid-level disturbances embedded within strong flow over the northern tier of states. The most notable mid-level shortwave trough is located over the western Great Lakes, and this feature will move east to the lower Great Lakes by early Tuesday morning. An upstream impulse over northeast MT this evening will move east-southeastward into the Upper Midwest by late tonight. Scattered thunderstorms have developed along a cold front from southeast Lower MI southward into the OH Valley. The 8pm EDT observed soundings from Detroit and Wilmington, OH both exhibited weak buoyancy (at or below 250 J/kg MUCAPE). Despite the strongly forced convective line, the cooling of the boundary layer will limit the potential for stronger gusts with time, and lessening storm coverage is expected by later this evening as this activity moves to the central Appalachians and lower Great Lakes. ..Smith.. 10/13/2020
