SPC 1200Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1120 PM CST Wed Nov 18 2020 Valid 191200Z - 201200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... Aside from portions of the Pacific Northwest coast vicinity, the risk for thunderstorms appears negligible across much of the U.S. Thursday through Thursday night. ...Synopsis... A zonally oriented pattern aloft will persist across the Lower 48 today, with weak/subtle shortwave troughs migrating across the Northwest. These troughs (and the cold air aloft associated with them) may create enough mid-level instability for convection and a few lightning flashes through early evening. Elsewhere, an anticyclone centered over the Southeast will maintain relatively stable conditions across much of the remainder of the CONUS. Return flow/low-level moistening will occur across Texas and Oklahoma (especially late), but the moistening will likely not be enough to foster deep, lightning-producing convection. ..Cook.. 11/19/2020
