A compact upper low is currently over NM, and will track into west TX later today and tonight. Large scale forcing for ascent ahead of this feature is overspreading the southern Plains, leading to areas of showers and thunderstorms from western OK into much of TX and southwest LA. This activity is elevated above a cool/stable near-surface layer. While small hail could occur in the strongest cells, severe weather is not anticipated today. Later this evening and tonight, scattered thunderstorms will likely spread eastward along the Gulf coast into parts of LA and MS.
