Severe thunderstorms are not expected across the conus through the Day 1 forecast period. ...Synopsis... A potent shortwave trough over the Delmarva peninsula is forecast to intensify as it moves northeastward along the New England coast through this afternoon. At the surface, a bomb cyclone will support a broad shield of mixed/wintry precipitation across coastal New England. A few lightning flashes may accompany embedded deeper convection. A trailing cold front will extend southward across the western Atlantic and into western Florida where a few diurnal thunderstorms are possible. Across the western US, a large mid-level anticyclone will be located over the Great Basin. To its south, a cutoff low over northern Mexico is forecast to slowly drift to the east. Modest mid-level height falls from the approaching upper-low and a warm and moist air mass near the Gulf of Mexico will support a few general thunderstorms across coastal Texas. ..Lyons/Smith.. 12/05/2020
