SPC 1200Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1133 PM CST Sun Dec 06 2020 Valid 071200Z - 081200Z ...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS FAR SOUTH FLORIDA... ...SUMMARY... A few strong thunderstorms may occur across the southern Florida Peninsula and Keys this morning. ...Synopsis... Strengthening mid-level flow remains across the lower 48 states with an amplifying trough noted across the Appalachians and southeastern US. An associated cold front extending from the trough was draped across southern Florida. To the west, high pressure across the Rockies and Great Basin will flank an upper low moving south along the California coast. With the exception of south Florida, a dry and stable air mass will negate thunderstorm chances across the US. ...Florida Keys and far southern Florida Peninsula... To the south and east of the cold front, a warm, moist, and weakly unstable air mass (dewpoints near 70F and MLCAPE of 250-750 J/kg) will reside across the southern Peninsula. Model guidance indicates a broken convective line across south Florida this morning, with it exiting to the east by mid to late morning. Appreciably strong low-level flow may support a few storms capable of damaging wind gusts. ..Lyons/Smith.. 12/07/2020
