SPC 1200Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1134 PM CST Sun Dec 13 2020 Valid 141200Z - 151200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... General thunderstorm activity is expected over parts of the Southeast. ...Synopsis and Discussion... A fast-moving shortwave trough will move from the southern Appalachians across the Carolinas, approaching the coast by midday. Low pressure will also shift quickly across the Carolinas, and will be offshore by 18Z. Rain and a few thunderstorms will be present across VA with lift north of the warm front, as well as farther south near the low and trailing cold front into GA. Forecast soundings indicate poor instability profiles will be present across the warm sector, and low-level winds are likely to rapidly veer before sufficient destabilization can occur for any potential severe storms. Shear will be strong prior to frontal passage, and a few strong gusts cannot be ruled out given low-60s F dewpoints and weak instability. However, the overall severe threat is currently expected to be sub-marginal. ..Jewell/Cook.. 12/14/2020
