Day 1 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0150 PM CST Thu Dec 17 2020

Valid 172000Z - 181200Z

...NO THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST...

...SUMMARY...
Thunderstorms appear unlikely across the contiguous United States
for the remainder of the afternoon and tonight.

...20Z Update...
As surface winds veer to westerly across the southeastern FL
Peninsula, low-level convergence along a cold front should continue
to weaken, with minimal thunderstorm potential over land. Lightning
potential also appears to have diminished over CA as a shortwave
trough moves southeastward.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 0951 AM CST Thu Dec 17 2020/

Latest water vapor loop shows multiple shortwave troughs affecting
the US today, but relatively dry/stable conditions will limit the
risk of thunderstorm activity to small parts of south FL and central
CA. In both areas, large-scale forcing is weakening through the day
and the risk of deep convection will diminish through the afternoon.
 No severe storms are expected.
