Severe thunderstorms are not expected today. ...Synopsis... A midlevel shortwave trough expected to extend from the Carolinas into the eastern Gulf of Mexico at the start of the period will move quickly offshore this morning, as an attendant cold front sweeps through the FL Peninsula. Some deep convection may persist through around 14-15Z in the vicinity of the southern FL Peninsula and the FL Keys, before the front moves through the region and the midlevel shortwave departs to the east. Elsewhere, weak convection will be possible across the OH Valley today in association with a fast-moving midlevel shortwave trough, and later this evening near the Pacific Northwest coast in association with an amplified upper trough, but anything more than very isolated/sporadic lightning activity in these areas in not currently expected. ..Dean.. 12/21/2020
