SPC 1200Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1129 PM CST Thu Dec 24 2020 Valid 251200Z - 261200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... A few lightning flashes may occur over New England, and across portions of the Pacific Northwest later tonight. ...New England... Strong low-level warm advection will be noted across New England today ahead of a strong upper trough that will eject into eastern NY by the end of the period. While modified low-level moisture will advance inland ahead of the cold front, forecast soundings suggest parcel buoyancy will be rooted above the boundary layer and only weak elevated convection is expected ahead of the front. The strongest updrafts may yield a few lightning flashes. ...Pacific Northwest... Height falls are expected to spread across the Pacific Northwest later today as a short-wave trough moves onshore during the latter half of the period. As heights fall, cooling mid-level profiles and steepening lapse rates should support scattered convection immediately ahead of a cold front that should move onshore toward the end of the period. ..Darrow/Wendt.. 12/25/2020
