SPC 2000Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0141 PM CST Sat Dec 26 2020 Valid 262000Z - 271200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... Thunderstorm potential remains negligible across the contiguous U.S. through early Sunday, except near coastal Washington this evening. ...Discussion... No changes are required to the ongoing outlook at this time, with a few lightning flashes possible near the Washington coast this evening, and no thunder expected elsewhere. ..Goss.. 12/26/2020 .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1002 AM CST Sat Dec 26 2020/ ...Coastal WA... The next in a series of low-amplitude shortwave impulses, currently well west of OR, should approach coastal WA this evening. A zone of focused ascent attendant to this impulse in conjunction with steep low to mid-level lapse rates should yield a period of scattered low-topped convection approaching the coast. Scant buoyancy (SBCAPE below 250 J/kg) may support very isolated lightning flashes and this threat appears marginally sufficient for a 10-percent thunder area.
