SPC 1300Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0650 AM CST Mon Dec 28 2020 Valid 281300Z - 291200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... Isolated thunderstorms will remain possible across parts of southern California through this evening. ...Southern California... A band of precipitation that produced several lighting flashes earlier this morning across parts of coastal southern CA will continue to move inland today. Behind this initial activity, additional showery convection will remain possible through much of the day as strong ascent associated with an upper trough/low and enhanced mid-level jet overspreads this region. Cooling mid-level temperatures and steepening lapse rates should prove favorable for occasional lighting flashes with weak instability. This lightning potential is forecast to gradually shift southward across southern CA through the afternoon and evening, before eventually diminishing tonight as the upper trough/low moves inland across the Great Basin and Southwest. Limited boundary-layer instability should preclude an organized severe risk, but some small hail may occur given the cold temperatures and steep lapse rates present aloft. ..Gleason.. 12/28/2020
