SPC 0100Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0635 PM CST Wed Jan 20 2021 Valid 210100Z - 211200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... Isolated non-severe thunderstorms are possible across the Lower Colorado Valley and southern Arizona tonight. ...01z Update... Early-evening water-vapor imagery depicts a well-defined upper low off the northern Baja Peninsula. This feature is moving slowly northeast and should track across the northern Baja by sunrise Thursday. Numerous showers, and a few thunderstorms, are currently noted within the left exit region of a 90kt 500mb speed max. This convection is mostly south of the international border, but a few flashes of lightning have been observed over southern Yuma County AZ. While 21/00z 1Y7 sounding was not particularly unstable, steep lapse rates between 3-6km contribute to some buoyancy. Favorable trajectories should encourage a few storms to spread across the desert southwest during the overnight hours. ..Darrow.. 01/21/2021
