SPC 1200Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1119 PM CST Sun Jan 31 2021 Valid 011200Z - 021200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... Isolated thunderstorms are possible across southern Florida on Monday morning. Severe thunderstorms are not expected. ...Synopsis... Cool, stable conditions are expected today across a large part of the CONUS in the wake of a deepening coastal low off the Mid-Atlantic and a strong cold front sweeping southward across the Gulf of Mexico and Gulf Stream. Along the front in central/southern Florida, forcing aloft associated with falling geopotential heights and intensifying mid-level flow may foster a few thunderstorms along the front in the 12-16Z timeframe. The front (and associated instability) should shift offshore after 16Z and effectively end the thunder threat there. Along the northern California/Oregon coastline, an approaching mid-level system will produce widespread precipitation, with occasional weak mid-level instability possibly supportive of an isolated lightning strike or two after around 20Z or so. Indications are that the threat for lightning flashes will be too sparse for a general thunder area, however. ..Cook.. 02/01/2021
