SPC 1300Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0651 AM CST Wed Feb 03 2021 Valid 031300Z - 041200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... Isolated thunderstorms may occur later this afternoon and evening across western Colorado, eastern Utah, and vicinity. ...Synopsis... A midlevel shortwave trough over OR this morning will move across UT/CO later this afternoon/evening. Pockets of daytime heating beneath steep midlevel lapse rates could result in sufficient buoyancy for low-topped convection with isolated lightning flashes, in the zone of ascent preceding the midlevel trough/cold front. Given strong wind profiles and steep low-level lapse rates, isolated strong outflow winds will be possible. Otherwise, some weak midlevel convection may occur overnight across the central Plains in advance of the midlevel trough and within the lingering midlevel moisture plume spreading eastward from the Rockies. However, the threat for lightning flashes appears too limited to warrant an outlook area. ..Thompson.. 02/03/2021
