SPC 1300Z Day 1 Outlook
Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0640 AM CST Fri Feb 05 2021 Valid 051300Z - 061200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... A few thunderstorms will be possible today from central through southeast Texas and southern Louisiana. ...Synopsis... Broad cyclonic flow will encompass the majority of the CONUS, along with a relatively dry/stable air mass in the low levels. Within the broader cyclonic flow, and embedded speed max will move from TX eastward over the Gulf coast, along and just north of a slow-moving front across the northwest/north central Gulf of Mexico shelf waters. Sufficient moistening atop the frontal surface (near 850 mb) will support a few elevated thunderstorms today from central into southeast TX/southern LA. Farther east, a modest warm sector will establish ahead of the front from the FL Panhandle into south GA. However, only low-topped convective showers are expected across this area, since buoyancy should remain too shallow for mixed phase/charge separation. ..Thompson/Broyles.. 02/05/2021
